Schedule of Events
The West Coast Latvian Song Festival has been an ongoing cultural event for Latvians throughout the Untied States since 1962.  Gatherings occur roughly every four years and locations alternate between Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles.  This year event organizers have chosed Ventura as the host city.
Thursday, Aug 28
4:00PM	Opening Ceremonies     Crowne Plaza Upper Ballroom
8:00PM	“Letter from LA”               Buena High School Auditorium
	An original two-act musical.  Words by Andris Ritmanis, music by Emmy Award winning composer Lolita Ritmanis and Brigita Jameson.  (Performed in Latvian with translations in program)
Friday, Aug 29
10:00AM	Art Opening                          Ventura Artists Union Gallery
11:00AM	Children’s Festivity         Crowne Plaza Upper Ballroom
	Activities for children up to age 12.  Featured performers: “Dzeguzite”, a youth music ensemble from Latvia.
3:00PM	Latvian Music Concert         San Buenaventura Mission
	Pianist Juris Zvikovs, Riga Academy Choir will perform solo piano and choral works by Latvian composers.

	Readings of works by Latvian poets.  (In Latvian)
1:00PM	“Hotel Paradiso”             Buena High School Auditorium
	An original one-act comedy, written and directed by Andra StIvanyi. (Performed in Latvian)
4:00PM	Folk Dance Program    Ventura High School Auditorium
	100 dancers from the USA, Canada and Latvia perform a program representing the four major regions of Latvia.
8:00PM	“Hotel Paradiso”             Buena High School Auditorium

9:00PM	Novus Tournament         Crowne Plaza Lower Ballroom
	Latvia’s popular pastime – similar to billiards, but not exactly.

11:00AM	Dance troupe "Saime"                                    Plaza Park
	A dance troupe from Latvia will perform folk dances in their traditional costumes.  Free to the public.
4:00PM	Choir Concert                Ventura High School Auditorium
	The 200-person combined choir performs new and traditional choral works by Latvian composers.
9:00PM	Final Ball             Crowne Plaza/Marriott Hotel Ballrooms
Ongoing Exhibits  Aug. 29, 30, 31
9:00AM - 10:00PM	Arts and Crafts Fair                           Crowne Plaza Hotel
	Ongoing display and boutiques of jewlery, pottery, wood carving, weaving and other crafts by Latvian artisans.
10:00AM - 6:00PM	Art Exhibit                             Ventura Artists Union Gallery
	“Small Wonders from Latvia”, an exhibit of small-scale works by Latvian artists.
